When it comes to Branded Notebooks, there seems to be an endless choice, and although A5 size is the most popular version, they are also offered in the smaller size of A6 (and occasionally even A7) and upwards to A4.

A notebook, is a product which is book bound, with a hard cover, and very often with an elastic closure and a ribbon page marker. Some even have a ticket and note pocket inside the back cover, which is a nice touch.

The material of the covers can range from plastic all the way to a padded leather style, but the current, and much admired style is one that has a soft-feel PU cover, which can take a print, but also a debossing (where the design or logo is pressed into the cover) – which creates a subtle, but superb way of making it a desirable personalised product.

Although custom printed notebooks have been around for a long time, the introduction of Moleskine books in the retail sector stimulated a lot of interest in this product as a suitable promotional gift. The soft feel covers in which some of them were offered in, helped create a wonderful, tactile product (which isn’t confined to notepads – it is also offered on some pens and even mugs!)

Although I can certainly offer Moleskine products as promotional product, it is certainly at the higher price point end. While it would certainly make a massive statement when given away as a branded notebook, I realise that perhaps most of my clients would prefer their precious marketing budget to go a little further! But no fear, as mentioned above, there is a vast choice now, at all different prices, all colours and a choice of plain or lined papers inside.

Notebooks which are printed with the clients logo on the front cover, are usually produced on to the finished book, which is in stock. It is possible, however, to create a completely bespoke product, by having specially designed covers, maybe incorporating photographs inside the book or other pages relevant to the company giving them away. Unlike the usual way of supply, by going the completely personalised route means that the individual pages may also be customised. Notebooks such as these would be manufactured from scratch, and there would be a higher, minimum order quantity.

For a standard, overprinted notebook, the starting quantity is usually 50 books, but better prices come at 100, or even 250.

But if you want a paper product, which does have customised pages, never fear, because the Personalised Notepad is the way to go!

What self-respecting conference centre, hotel, or professional company doesn’t have notepads to give-away freely to their attendees, guest and clients?!

A notepad is usually considered as a 50 sheet pad, which is glued at the top, to a card back board. It can have fewer pages (25) or more (100) and can even have a thin card front flap, which when printed with a complementary design, does add a nice touch.

Notepads are a lot less expensive than their hifalutin cousin – the notebook, and they are much more widely used. It is also possible to be more creative with the design printed on them, because unlike the different cover materials used in notebooks, in the case of notepads, the printing is straight on to the paper. This allows for two important things to happen – firstly, very accurate colour printing, and the ability to easily recreate complex and multi-colour logos.

While a single colour design can look very smart and striking, if a colour can be added (or even a full colour design) this can really allow the branded notepad to stand out.

I always suggest that my client considers a ‘shadow’ or ‘watermark’ addition to the printed design. This is where the logo (or part of it) or some other aspect of the design, is printed in the centre of the pad, or across it, but very faintly. Printed in this way, it still allows the recipient to write on the pad – rather important!

But, perhaps most importantly, the ‘watermark’ is printed at NO extra cost – it is simply part of the print job (whether one colour or full colour printed) which happens to be printed at a very low percentage, compared to the rest of the job.

Because these are lower cost items, the minimum ordering quantity for notepads is usually 250, or though much better prices start at 500 or even 1,000

Custom notepads are offered in sizes from A7 all the way to A2, and I can also offer 1/3 A4 style and even custom sizes. They may also be wirobound, and other variations of this product include paperblocks, paper holders and sticky paper notes (aka ‘post-its’). I can supply all of these!
